At St. Louis College of Pharmacy, we are committed to the safety, security, and well-being of our students, faculty and staff. The College continually works to improve security and foster a safe and secure climate for learning and living. The purpose of this policy is to establish restrictions regarding the possession of firearms and weapons on College Property, in College vehicles, or at College sponsored events and activities.

Applies to all faculty, staff, students, guests, visitors, and persons physically on College Property or using College-owned, rented, or leased vehicles.

Definition

College Property

All property owned, leased, rented, or controlled by the College.

Weapon

A Weapon is generally  an instrument that can be used to injure, defeat, or destroy such as, for example, a blackjack, slingshot, Billy club, metal knuckles, dagger, knife, firearm, razor with an unguarded blade, and any metal pipe or bar used or intended to be used as a club, or a bow and arrow.

Possession-Concealed or Not Concealed

Physical possession or carrying on the person or displaying a weapon at any location on the College campus, including an individual's living quarters or workplace, or in an individual's container including but not limited to backpacks, briefcases, purses, wallets, bags and luggage.

Firearm

Handgun, rifle, shotgun, air gun, pellet gun, BB gun, and any other Weapon that deploys a projectile.

Knife/Edged Weapon

Includes but is not limited to any knife with a blade length of more than four inches, any knife with a blade that opens automatically by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in the handle of the knife, or any knife having a blade that opens or falls or is ejected into position by the force of gravity, or by an outward, downward or centrifugal thrust or movement. Swords, axes, martial art throwing stars/knives.

Explosives

Fireworks, ammunition, or any substance that can produce an explosion if released suddenly with the intent to cause fear, injury or property damage.

Details:

The Saint Louis College of Pharmacy (“College”) strictly prohibits the possession or use of weapons on College property, at College sponsored activities and events, or in College-owned, rented, or leased vehicles, to the fullest extent allowed by law.  This restriction prohibits persons from carrying firearms or other weapons, concealed or not concealed, with or without a concealed weapon permit, without the express written permission of the President, except uniformed first responders and any unmarked first responder who provides proper identification to the Office of Public Safety.

Procedures:

1) Reports of any unauthorized weapons or other violations of this Policy should be made to the appropriate campus representatives, as follows:

(1)    Office of Public Safety

(2)    College Services

(3)    Office of the President

(4)    Office of Culture and Campus Life

ii) Notification should also be given to the Office of Human Resources if appropriate.

iii) Any violation of this policy is a serious offense and may subject the violator to criminal arrest or expulsion from College Property, events, or activities and result in disciplinary action including, but not limited to, termination of employment or contractual relationships, or issuance of a written directive from the College barring future access to or entry upon College Property, events or activities.

2) The College strives to respect the privacy of their students and employees. The safety and physical well-being of the members of the campus community however, must always be our priority. Accordingly, in connection with the enforcement of this policy:

i) The College reserves the right to conduct an inspection reasonably calculated to discover the presence of firearms or concealed weapons in any person’s, office, desk, and personal items (e.g., purse, backpack, coat or other outerwear, parcels or containers) at any time without prior notice. Failure to cooperate with any such inspection may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.

3) Licensed peace officers from outside law enforcement agencies and employees of the Office of Public Safety, working in the scope of their duties, may be registered and licensed to carry firearms, tasers, collapsible batons, oleoresin capsicum spray are authorized on College property. It should also be noted that members from Washington University Protective Services and Barnes Jewish Security Department, working in the scope of their duties, may be requested to assist any member of the Office of Public Safety upon request, shall also be permitted to be on College property.
